Musicians & Street Performers

Musicians & Street Performers may set up without fee or registration (alert: Currently, there are no fees, registration or designated spots as it has been for 17 years. Our misguided mayor will be attempting to register and charge fees for vendors June-July, 2015. (Mayor Hales should be leaving office after this summer and things will change once again.) If you set up earlier in the day, please refrain from performing in the street until the 6 pm street closure. (Alert: Mayor Hales will only be supporting 3 closures this summer June-August.)

Buskers: In the US, free speech is considered a fundamental right of every individual, guaranteed by the First and Fourteenth constitutional amendments, and in the majority of legal cases it has been concluded that practicing artistic free speech is legal. Busking is legally considered to be artistic free speech and clearly not panhandling or begging. Buskers are not vendors.

Because there are no assigned spaces we ask that you self-manage your space in partnership with the community and other vendors. Musicians, please be sensitive to your placement relative to other performers on the street and do not block entries into side street food pods.

SET UP:

Please follow the set up guidelines below.

Set up when you please but keep in mind that the businesses along Alberta Street need to be able to do business without interference all day long. From May – September, during our warm months, the street will be closed from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. (No parking on Alberta after 5.) You may set up at any time during the day.

There are no assigned spaces so please self-manage in partnership with the community and other vendors. We do not provide an electricity source.

We do, however, ask that you read and comply with the Last Thursday Guidelines, below.

To maximize foot traffic and minimize conflict with local business owners and neighbors, please provide these courtesies:

    1. ASK FIRST.  Before setting up in front of a business, please receive their permission.
    2. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF.  After packing up at night, take a look around and pack out all trash.
    3. SET UP according to guidelines below

All side streets and intersections up to Alberta St. must be clear of booths for emergency vehicles.

Leave sidewalks open 5 ft for pedestrian and wheel chair access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Maintain clearance within 3 ft radius of fire hydrants.

Keep a clear 18 ft path through the center for people and for emergency vehicle access.

Please avoid blocking all driveways.

Doors and pathways to Alberta businesses must remain clear and open.

Please refrain from moving into the street before 6 pm. At 6:00pm you may move into the parking lane.

Parking on Alberta is for load in and load out only. Exceptions:

-vehicles engaged in active vending.

-performer support vehicles.

-special-abled vendors

Last Thursday complies with city sound ordinances. Code requires that street musicians should not be audible farther then 100 feet away (about 1/2 block). If you flow over the specified decibel level, our Ambassadors will give you a friendly turn it down reminder. After two requests, you may be at risk for a citation (Please be aware that noise violations from the City are $500 for each musician)or you may be asked to leave the event.

Quiet hours start at 10 p.m.  Alberta neighbors ask that you be respectful and leave quietly and promptly at 10 p.m.

                                                           Thank you!

    • Last Thursday happens year round with the artists coming out whenever it is nice enough. We close Alberta Street during the peak months, May-Sept. Artists begin setting up in the afternoon (there is no start time) and the event ends at 9:30.
Sound should not be heard past 100′ or 1/2 block away to accommodate all musicians and other buskers. Check out our webpage dedicated to performers and musicians for all the deets. http://www.lastthursdayonalberta.com/artists/performing-arts
